Pro-Life Liturgy Schedule for 2008

These Pro-Life Liturgies began in 1994 and will continue to be offered at various parishes in the Diocese on the First Tuesday of every month. The evening begins with a Rosary for Life at 6:40pm followed by Holy Mass at 7:00pm and veneration of an image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, if one is available in the host parish. The evening ends with a social hour including refreshments, pro-life displays and pro-life literature.

Monday, January 22nd           National Day of Prayer and Penance:
From the USCCB: “In all the dioceses of the United States of America, January 22  . . . shall be observed as a particular day of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life. The Mass ‘For Peace and Justice’ (no. 22 of the ‘Masses for Various Needs’) should be celebrated with violet vestments as an appropriate liturgical observance for this day.” We encourage all Catholics to attend this Mass at their respective parishes.

Natural Family Planning Methods

These fertility education methods have all proven to be highly effective in identifying the fertile and infertile days of the woman’s cycle.  All involve the observation and charting of natural signs of fertility.

CCL: Couple to Couple League Sympto-Thermal Method

Three classes of group instruction, $135

The couple takes basal temperature readings at a consistent time.  The woman makes note of cervical fluid, if present on the tissue after voiding. Internal observations may identify an earlier start of the fertile period.  Palpation of the cervix confirms the other signs of fertility.  Once the method is learned, couples choose which signs of fertility they will monitor.  Charts are ordered from CCL.

R-FAM: Rockford Diocese-Fertility Appreciation Method
Ovulation method with temperature option

Introduction & eight individual follow-ups, $90
The woman makes external observations of cervical fluid using flat layers of tissue before and after every voiding in order to observe 100% of this primary sign of fertility.  The most fertile observation of the day is charted each night in standardized terms; the day’s fertility is then determined and marked accordingly.  Couples may also monitor basal body temperature (BBT) to confirm when ovulation has occurred.  Charts are provided.

Cm-FC: Creighton model FertilityCare. Ovulation method.

Introduction & eight individual follow-ups, $200

The woman makes external observations of cervical fluid using flat layers of tissue before and after every voiding in order to observe 100% of this primary sign of fertility.  The most fertile observation of the day is charted each night in clinical terms; the day’s fertility is then determined and stamped accordingly. Charts and stamps are available from the NFP Instructor. Fertility issues are referred to the Pope Paul VI Institute for the Study of Human Reproduction in Omaha , Nebraska , Thomas Hilgers, M.D., Director.
