Who is the Vocations Director?
In 2013 Bishop Malloy entrusted me with the task of guiding and directing vocations within our great diocese of Rockford. Since this time I have had the opportunity and the blessing to journey with men and women as they pray and learn about where God may be calling them. It is truly a gift to be able to see how God works in the lives of others, and witnessing this on a daily basis reminds me to be joyful and grateful for my own call.
I always like to say that I am a Vocation Director and that I am NOT a “Vocation Recruiter.” By this I mean that my role in the diocese is not to get young men to sign on the dotted line to enter seminary. Rather, my purpose is to help individuals to discover where God is calling them.
You see, if a man isn’t called to the priesthood, then I don’t want for him to be a priest; if a man IS called to be a priest then I definitely want for him to answer the call. So, that being said, my whole goal is to help everyone to hear God’s voice so that they can follow His call which will ultimately lead to peace and joy.
From my own personal experience I can say that the life of a priest is an incredible adventure that is filled with surprises, graces, and opportunities to really make differences in people’s lives, so my prayer is that all young men open their hearts to considering if God may be calling them to embark on the adventure of the priesthood!
