Bishop Malloy Inspires Youth to 'Be Proud of the Gift of Your Catholic Faith' at First Annual Youth Summit

On Sunday October 6, 2013 at the first annual Youth Summit held on the NIU campus in DeKalb, Bishop Malloy answered questions, socialized with and spoke briefly to teens from all around the diocese in attendance.

Last October, Bishop Malloy expressed his desire to celebrate this Year of Faith and stressed the importance of cultivating the faith at an early age. A team of organizers from the Diocese organized the youth rally along with Arise Ministries to help inspire young people from the area in celebration of the conclusion of the church's worldwide Year of Faith initiative. The rally attracted about 1400 teens and adult volunteers for an afternoon of speakers, activities, music, adoration, confession and a teen Mass.

Keynote Speakers
Dominic Albano - Executive Director of Arise Ministries
Known for his passion and energy, Dominick has spent his life trying to answer God's call to "go make disciples of all nations". He married his high school sweetheart and they have a son with one more on the way. An adventurist at heart, the two great adventures in his life are running towards heaven, and loving his family. If you mention the beach, Chipotle, or baseball, he will probably want to be your new best friend. Dominick serves as the Director of Youth Ministry for St. Joseph Congregation in Wauwatosa, WI.
Pete Burds - Director of Evangelization of Arise Ministries
Ever since his re-version to Catholicism through a high school youth ministry program, Pete has used his five loaves & two fish for the sake of building the Kingdom. Through storytelling, retreats, and leading worship, he has proclaimed Christ's freedom to thousands. He's a graduate of Franciscan University and is the Campus Minister at Saint Thomas More High School in Milwaukee. Pete is a wanna-be philosopher, has a mild obsession with the band Switchfoot, and because of Christ, finds himself living a life greater than his dreams.
Talia Westerby - Assistant Director of Arise Ministries
Talia Westerby is currently the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at the Basilica of St. Josaphat in Milwaukee. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education and Music from Butler University and her Masters in Lay Ministry from Cardinal Stritch University. She loves to play Ultimate Frisbee, where she met her fiance', Carl. Although she did not achieve her life-long goal of becoming the first female wide receiver of the Green Bay Packers, she still values the Hail Mary and spends her time trying to fall more passionately in love with Christ everyday.
Fr. Keith Romke - Director of Vocations for the Diocese of Rockford
Father Romke was ordained a priest in May of 2011. Since then he has served at Holy Cross parish in Batavia and St. Bridget Parish in Loves Park along with serving as the Diocesan Director of Vocations. His favorite thing to do is to share his love of Christ with others so that they too can be transformed and experience the joy and peace that can only come from God. He also loves the Blackhawks, Bulls, Bears, and Cubs, but most of all he deeply loves St. Catherine of Siena so if you try to refute the fact that she is the greatest saint after Mary, Joseph, and the Apostles, prepare yourself for a big debate!
Arise Music
Paul Vogrinc - Music Director of Arise Ministries
Paul Vogrinc is a worship leader and has a passion for leading others closer to Christ through music. He and and his wife reside in Rockford, Illinois with their three children.
