Bishop Malloy Announces Phased Plan to Reopen Churches for Public Mass
Father John Kraemer
The Chancery received word that Reverend John A. Kraemer died on Friday, May 15 at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital in La Grange, Illinois. Father was born on June 13, 1930 in Chicago Heights, Illinois, to Jacob Kraemer and Mary Berg.
Father Kraemer was ordained by the Most Reverend Loras Thomas Lane at St. James Parish in Rockford on May 25, 1957. Father attended St. Procopius Seminary in Lisle, Illinois where he received a BA in 1953. He later attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb where he received a Master of Arts. Father’s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar at Holy Angels Parish in Aurora (1957-1960). He was then assigned as Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph Parish in Freeport (1960-1963); and then as Parochial Vicar at St. Patrick Parish in St. Charles (1963-1966). In 1966 Father was assigned as Parochial Vicar at St. Mary Parish in Aurora. Father was assigned Pastor of St. Mary Parish in Freeport in 1970. He then served as Pastor of St. Mary Parish in Sycamore (1988-1989) and finally as Pastor of St. Paul Parish in Sandwich from 1989-1998 and retired there from active ministry on September 1, 1998.

A Message of Thanks from Bishop Malloy
As the Stay at Home order to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the State of Illinois continues through the month of May, our churches remain closed to public worship but their ministries and the Catholic faith that compels them, goes on and remains strong.
Bishop David Malloy seeks to acknowledge that work as well as send encouragement and thanks to the people in the entire diocese for their patience, prayer and good work.
To do this, Bishop Malloy has released a video message of thanks. This message can be viewed on the diocesan YouTube channel, the Diocese of Rockford website and Facebook page.

Bishop Malloy to Celebrate Web Masses and Devotions
Bishop David J. Malloy will begin offering Sunday Mass online beginning Sunday, March 22 at 9 a.m. He will continue through the suspension of public Masses in the Rockford Diocese.
Bishop Malloy will also offer a devotion and/or reflection every Wednesday at 12 noon.

Msgr. Thomas Monahan
The Chancery received word Sunday, March 15, 2020, that Reverend Monsignor Thomas J. Monahan, Ph. D., died at Wesley Willows in Rockford. Monsignor was born on July 30, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa, to James T. Monahan and Leona Waltenbaugh.
Monsignor Monahan attended Fordham University, New York, before attending Iona College, New Rochelle, N.Y. where he received his Bachelor Degree in Education. He attended St. Paul Seminary (1954-1958) where he received an Master’s Degree in Church History and was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Rockford on May 31, 1958 by Bishop Loras T. Lane at St. Mary Parish, McHenry.
