Life Advocacy Day – Protect the Parental Notification Law!

During the current legislative session, we will be called upon to fight to defend Illinois’ Parental Notification of Abortion law. Efforts are underway to repeal or revise this law, making it virtually ineffective – leaving our young girls vulnerable and stripping Illinois residents of their parental rights.
You may recall that in 2019 we saw the introduction of HB 2467 and SB 1594 in the Illinois Legislature – bills that sought to repeal the Parental Notification of Abortion Act. This current law, which has been in statute since 1995 and enforced since 2013, requires a parents or legal guardian be notified when a minor seeks an abortion. The current law includes a judicial waiver for those children who have been physically or sexually abused.
A repeal or revision of the Parental Notification of Abortion Act would be a tragedy for young people, for parents, for families, and for Illinois. With a united voice, we need to tell our elected officials that we do not want to see the Parental Notification of Abortion law weakened or repealed.
