NOTICE OF CANCELLATION
On March 11, 2020, the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State issued the following notification:
Until Further Notice:
Limiting Gatherings at the Illinois State Capitol Building
As you are aware, the coronavirus poses a serious threat to the public health and welfare. We are seeking your assistance in our efforts to limit the possibilities for the transmission of this disease. Permits for all scheduled tours of the Capitol Building and all events scheduled to take place at the Capitol Building have been cancelled. However, we are aware that organizations sometimes make plans to meet at the Capitol without going through the formality of contacting our office for an event permit. If any of your clients have scheduled any lobbying days or other events at the Capitol Building, please contact them and tell them that all such events at the Capitol Building have been cancelled, and that this cancellation extends to their events as well. We appreciate your cooperation in our efforts to halt the spread of the coronavirus.
As a result, all Life Advocacy Days have been cancelled, including the Diocese of Rockford Life Advocacy Day scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, 2020.
Your help is needed in Springfield!
During the 2020 spring legislative session, we will be called upon to fight to defend Illinois’ Parental Notification of Abortion law. Efforts are underway to repeal this law – leaving our young girls vulnerable and stripping Illinois residents of their parental rights.
You may recall that in 2019 we saw the introduction of HB 2467 and SB 1594 in the Illinois Legislature – bills that sought to repeal the Parental Notification of Abortion Act. This current law, which has been in statute since 1995 and enforced since 2013, requires a parents or legal guardian be notified when a minor seeks an abortion. The current law includes a judicial waiver for those children who have been physically or sexually abused. For more information on the current Parental Notification of Abortion Act, click here.
A repeal of the Parental Notification of Abortion Act would be a tragedy for young people, for parents, for families, and for Illinois.
With a united voice, we need to tell our elected officials that the current law is beneficial, and we do not want to see the Parental Notification of Abortion law repealed.
Here’s how you can help:
- PRAY for our elected officials, that they will have the wisdom to recognize the inherent dignity of each and every person – born and unborn – and that they will have the courage to carry out their responsibility to enact laws that protect life.
- CONTACT your elected officials when you received an ACTION ALERT. As soon as the team in Springfield sees movement on this issue, we will forward you an action alert. Click here to sign up to receive it! When you receive it, write, call, and/or email your elected officials and ask them to protect the current Parental Notification of Abortion law.
- VISIT your elected officials in their local offices and/or in Springfield, and ask them to protect the current Parental Notification of Abortion law.
