Thank you for your interest in the Life Advocacy Day taking place in Springfield on Wednesday, March 20th. We have received a tremendous response from the people of the Diocese of Rockford. Thank you!
Registration for this event is now closed.
According to the organizers, this event has reached full capacity and we are no longer able to accept any additions – but you can still help! Please pray with us, and contact your elected officials to ask them to vote NO on this legislation. Full details are below.
We ask the faithful of the Diocese of Rockford to join us in prayer. Please also consider fasting on Wednesday, March 20th, to join in solidarity with those from our diocese who will be traveling to Springfield to further the cause of life in the Illinois Legislature by meeting with elected officials. This prayer and advocacy campaign is part of a larger effort by all the Dioceses in Illinois, and is coordinated by the Catholic Conference of Illinois .
Gracious and merciful God, we ask that you send your Spirit among us to guide us and direct us in order to inspire all our political leaders to advance the culture of life in their duty to uphold the common good for all the people they serve. You sent your Son Jesus to teach us how to pray, how to serve you in obedience and how to be the people you are calling us to be. You inspire us each and every day to appreciate the gifts you bestow upon us and to use them to change the hearts and minds of all people. The most precious gift you have given us is the gift of life and you call us to be good stewards of all our creation. Help us to cultivate a spirit of prayer and of reconciliation for the lack of due diligence in protecting the most vulnerable among us; the children who are forgotten, abandoned and thought of as an inconvenience to the welfare of societies. Inspire all those in public office to protect the dignity of the unborn and those who are living who are deemed unfit to receive our care. Help us to receive our wisdom so that we know how best to serve you and your people. We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
PLEASE CONTACT YOUR STATE LEGISLATORS
Click here to email your state House and Senate lawmakers and urge them to vote “no” on these bills.
House Bill 2467 and Senate Bill 1594 are identical pieces of legislation that would repeal the current parental notification of abortion law. Meanwhile, House Bill 2495 and Senate Bill 1942 — also identical to one another — are both dubbed the Reproductive Health Act and make several changes to current abortion law.
HB 2467 and SB 1594 repeal the Illinois Parental Notice of Abortion Act, which requires a parent or legal guardian be notified when a minor seeks an abortion. The law includes a waiver for those children who have been physically or sexually abused. Although the law was passed in 1995, legal wranglings barred it from taking effect until July 2013, when the Illinois Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling implementing the law.
HB 2495 and SB 1942 define abortion as a fundamental right, repeal the state’s ban on partial-birth abortions, remove the requirement that only doctors can perform abortions, and jeopardize legal protections for doctors and hospitals who refuse to participate in an abortion. These bills include other changes to current law regarding abortion, and the Catholic Conference of Illinois is analyzing those changes for their impact.
